Teach the cat to pot proven methods

If you finally decided and started a little fluffy little bundle of happiness called a kitten, then along with all the joys and positives, any “amateur cat-driver” will also wait for unpleasant duties that cannot be avoided, but you can minimize their unpleasant effect. .

At their core, cats and cats are very clean animals, so it is much easier to teach them to relieve themselves in the right place than it might seem to inexperienced owners at first glance. Not the most pleasant handfuls and puddles in secluded places of a house or apartment, of course, will not please anyone, therefore it is necessary to fight against such a phenomenon from the very first days of the appearance of a new fluffy friend in your house.

Be patient

If you look through the special literature on the education of domestic cats, the methods described there may differ, but the theoretical basis remains the same: the earlier you start to teach a kitten to the pot, the better.Of course, the situations are different, but if you don’t want a particular hassle about this, then it’s better to get a fluffy lump only when it hits at least 2 months.

Usually, by this time, the mother cat lays all the basics of the necessary knowledge in her fluffies, the kittens are already starting to go to the toilet on their own, and therefore the whole process of adaptation in the new house is much easier.

Often, the new owners have enough just to show where the need to meet and the baby, after that, does an excellent job on its own. But what to do if you got an untrained animal? It's okay, cats are very intelligent and smart animals who, with the right learning process, quickly understand what they want from them.

Sometimes it happens

So, how to teach a cat to the pot? Many novice owners make a series of blunders; when they first missed their ward, they start screaming and poking the baby at the results of his life activity, thereby frightening a small and defenseless animal.

Remember that a kitten is the same small child who has not yet learned to behave culturally and correctly, for this he needs to “show” what is required of him and, over time, if you do not change patience and love for your pet, your work will bring the first positive results.

An important factor in this venture is the right conditions that you need to organize for your cat, if you want it to go to your tray.

Choosing the right tray

The first thing you should pay special attention to is, of course, the tray itself. In pet stores, you can now find three main types of cat litter: low and high trays with a grid, high trays without a grid, can be supplemented with removable rails, as well as a third kind - a toilet with a hood or a lodge-toilet.

It is believed that the most convenient trays, which completely satisfy all the basic needs of your baleen friend, is the second option, the sides can be 5-10 cm in height.

Do not worry, this height is surmountable even for a small kitten that grows very quickly and, literally in some six months, a small and low pile for him will already be simply uncomfortable. Therefore, choose a bigger toilet, the cat should feel free in it, find a place to rummage and sit down exactly where it is comfortable.

Models with hoods or fully closed houses, toilets - not bad for those cats who are accustomed to raking everything around them, including walls and air, after going to the toilet. For such cases, to protect your repair, a toilet with a hood may come up, however, remember that it will be harder to teach a cat to it than to the usual one.

There are gated

Trays with a net - a good option, though, if you are used to using a filler, then there will simply be no place to fill it. Many owners are wondering how many trays should a cat have? If a similar question has arisen, it means that you have already noticed that your pet prefers to handle the “big” and “small” needs in different places, therefore, such representatives of the Fuzzies will have to install two trays.

Fillers

In total there are several types of fillers, most of them greatly facilitate the care of a cat, because they absorb the smell well and they are quite simple to clean. The time has passed for the usual sand and newspaper papers, which could not cope with the smell of urine and wet paws of an adult animal, which after going to the toilet could go straight to the master bed.

  • Caking fillers. This kind is made of natural materials, for example, sawdust, paper, clay, and in some elite varieties can also add sandalwood or red cedar shavings, which their natural scent very much like animals. Upon contact with the liquid, the granules are collected in a small lump, which is easy to remove with a spatula, and the remaining pure filler can remain in the tray and be used further.
  • Absorbent Fillers. Usually made of a modern solid sorbent, which has a high absorbency and perfectly neutralizes smells. Going to such a "sand", your cat will remain with dry paws, since all urine will quickly absorb into the granules, leaving the surface dry.

Which species to choose for you, you can understand only by trying them on your cat, which itself in its behavior will tell you what she likes more. Remember that lumpy fillers are not recommended for small kittens that can be played with such lumps and accidentally swallowed them, besides, because of the clay used in their composition, they can leave a significant amount of dust.

How to teach a kitten to the tray?

First, find where to put a tray in your apartment: it’s better to have a toilet or bathroom, a quiet and secluded place where an animal can safely, without being distracted by small children or other animals, celebrate their need.

Many cats can be shy, so it is better that the tray does not stand somewhere on the aisle or the general review, but also not so that the little kitten cannot find it at all. Bring the baby for the first time to the tray, put it in it, make a few grabbing movements in the filler, it will interest the kitten and, quite possibly, the instincts will quickly take up.

If this is not the case, then at first try not to leave the baby alone, watch his behavior: if you see that he starts to get nervous and look for where to sleep, then immediately take him to the toilet and put him on the tray.

Still, he is not for sleep

If after all you found the first puddles or piles somewhere in the corner, do not rush to shout or, especially, to beat the animal. Bring it to the "crime scene", chide it in an even, but strict and serious tone, and then take it to the tray.

Take the paper and feed it in a puddle, transfer it to the tray so that it will get “a certain smell”.And here's a place with a puddle well washed, and then sprinkle with lemon juice to destroy the smell. If, after all manipulations, the cat still does not want to go to the right place, especially if it used to go and stopped abruptly, then show it to the vet.

It may be that the animal is ill and therefore behaves so strangely. Remember that in any case only patience and the right approach can give positive results, but in any way shouts and "poking" in a puddle.
