THE AVERAGE AGE OF VIRGINITY LOST IN EACH COUNTRY
The Average Age of the World's Most Beautiful Person Is Now 38
While the beauty industry has a habit of embracing youth, our concept of what is beautiful is getting older and more diverse, according to new research.
Scientists fromBoston University School of Medicinecompared the 50 celebrities who were listed inPeoplemagazine's "World's Most Beautiful" list in 1990 with the 135 featured in the 2019 ranking. While the average age of those named the most beautiful was 33.2 around 27 years ago, it was found to be 38.9 this year.
Julia Roberts, who is 49, was voted the most beautiful woman in the world in April, and has no doubt helped to push the average age back. Reese Witherspoon, 41, Alicia Keys, 36, and Viola Davis, 52, were among the other stars over the age of 35 to make the list.
The research, published in the JAMA Dermatology journal, also showed the most recentPeopleranking has become more diverse, with the proportion of nonwhite celebrities increasing from 24 percent in 1990 to 40 percent in 2019. Mixed race celebrities were represented by just one person in 1990 but this year, that figure rose to 14.
"The mass media platform has for years introduced certain criteria for what constitutes beauty," Dr Neelam Vashi, from Boston University School of Medicine, said of the results.
